En este artículo se aborda el ensayo «Gender in Translation: Beyond Monolingualism» de Judith Butler (2019) tomando la traductología del género como un campo relevante para elaborar un diálogo productivo con los estudios de género. Dicho diálogo puede resultar incluso reparatorio si se considera que Butler cae no solo en un monolingüismo propiamente dicho, sino también en uno disciplinar, en el que textos y autorías del campo de la filosofía no reconocen las contribuciones de otros ámbitos de conocimiento. Como se verá en el análisis del texto de Butler, su visión de la traducción omite toda referencia al campo de la traductología y, en particular, a la obra de autoras que han trabajado en la intersección de género y traducción en las últimas tres décadas, lo que conlleva ciertos conceptos esencialistas. En un segundo movimiento, a partir de un conjunto de postulados teóricos de traductólogas hispanófonas, con ánimo desterritorializador y el objetivo de salir de la esfera anglosajona del conocimiento, se elabora un diálogo con las aportaciones traductológicas posestructuralistas para problematizar los planteamientos de Butler y abrir vías de colaboración epistemológica que puedan valerse de los avances teóricos de la traducción como espacio de pensamiento clave para los estudios de género y otras ramas humanísticas y sociales.
