Pour fter le 900 e anniversaire de la fondation en 1108 de l'abbaye de Saint-Victor, 26 spcialistes se sont runis sous la direction de l'.au couvent du Collge des Bernardins Paris rcemment restaur dans sa gloire mdivale.Leur but n'tait pas de mettre en exergue les ralisations de cette abbaye clbre -tche dj accomplie en 1988 -mais de mesurer son influence et rayonnement au del de son clotre.Dot par les patrons royaux et piscopaux (R. Gross), l'importance de l'abbaye n'est pas due son architecture -il n'y a pas un style victorin -ni son programme de rforme canoniale -la fdration victorine n'tait pas nombreuse (J.Fhrer), mais grce la devotio moderna elle s'tendit jusqu'aux Pays Bas (N.Staubach).Son De institutione novitiorum fut pourtant lu et conserv par les ordres mendiants (G.Zinn).Son influence future concerne surtout la vie intellectuelle et spirituelle, et, en particulier, travers ses reprsentants les plus influents : Guillaume de Champeaux, Hugues, Adam, Andr, et Richard, tous nomms de Saint-Victor .L'irascible Gautier de la fin du XII e sicle n'est pas, quant lui, pris en considration.Les ouvrages fondamentaux d'Hugues et de Richard furent rassembls avant 1155 et les premiers tre imprims au XVI e sicle avant la grande dition de l'abb Migne au XIX e sicle (J.L. Quantin).S'exprimant dans un latin personnel et affectif avec un penchant pour les ternaires et binaires (P.Bourgain), Hugues et Richard tablirent l'une des plus importantes coles de leur poque (C.Giraud), bien que celle-ci n'ait jou qu'un rle mineur dans la formation de l'Universit de Paris au sicle suivant (J.Verger).Lorsqu'Hugues conseillait ses tudiants d'apprendre tout , il inaugurait une tradition encyclopdique qui engendrera Vincent de Beauvais chez les dominicains (E.Fruzeanu, M.
