Abstract
Cet engouement a cependant deux facettes opposées que l’on analyse dans le présent article. Dans son roman, L’Ogre de Grand Remous, tissé dans une large mesure de références à Deux Cavaliers de l’orage de Giono, Lalonde obéit à la vision sanguinaire et cruelle de son prédécesseur, alors que dans son essai intitulé Le Monde sur le flanc de la truite dans lequel il se montre dans son atelier de travail sans avoir recours à la fiction, l’écrivain québécois réduit et « angélise » la même référence gionienne du théâtre de sang à une métaphore de l’hérédité, en attribuant une signification positive à ce qui représentait chez Giono, comme d’ailleurs dans son roman, la démesure meurtrière. Ce double exemple donne lieu à la réflexion sur le degré de fidélité de l’hypertexte à la valeur sémantique véhiculée par l’hypotexte, située dans un espace que délimitent deux pôles représentés par un couple de termes empruntés à la théorie de la traduction : l’exotisation par laquelle l’hypertexte adopte sans la changer la signification de l’hypotexte, et la naturalisation, id est l’assimilation de l’hypotexte qu’on reprend pour ainsi dire nominalement en en modifiant la signification pour la conformer à la vision du monde professée par l’adaptateur.
