Abstract
Le respect des médecines traditionnelles est un objectif de l’Organisation mondiale de la santé depuis 1978. Ces médecines ne sont pourtant encore aujourd’hui que peu connues, d’où la nécessité de repenser certains principes éthiques en rapport avec la reconnaissance de leur efficacité, leur développement et leur renouvellement. Une ethnographie multi-site d’un projet de Médecins sans frontières auprès des Madija-Kulina de l’Amazonie brésilienne autochtone permet de comprendre certains enjeux éthiques issus de l’interface entre biomédecines et médecines traditionnelles autochtones. L’article s’attarde tout particulièrement aux savoirs et pratiques entourant les remèdes traditionnels au moment où l’on cherche à introduire les médicaments pharmaceutiques en ces mêmes lieux. C’est ensuite à l’aide d’une anthropologie du médicament, des essais cliniques et des critères d’efficacité de ceux-ci qu’on propose des pistes pour une meilleure reconnaissance de la médecine traditionnelle par les organisations de santé internationale.
