Magnétisme des cratères d'impact de météorite à Vredefort (Afrique du Sud) et Rochechouart (France)

Abstract
Nous caracterisons le magnetisme de deux crateres d'impact de meteorite. A Rochechouart (France ; 214±8 Ma), deux polarites enregistrees dans les breches d'impact ont un pole paleomagnetique statistiquement identique a celui du cratere d'impact de Manicouagan (Canada ; 214±1 Ma) selon la courbe de reference au Trias Superieur, suggerant que les deux crateres ont comme origine un evenement d'impacts multiples. Le cratere de Vredefort (Afrique du Sud ; 2023±4 Ma), possede des magnetites Archeennes de taille poly-domaines et une deuxieme generation de magnetites de taille plutot mono domaine qui ont cristallisees lors de l'impact. Pour la premiere fois dans une roche cristalline, nous demontrons la presence de deux transitions de Verwey. Une des transitions, a -124 K, est associee aux magnetites Archeennes et l'autre (-102 K) aux magnetites non-stoichiometriques liees a l'impact. En outre, nous observon: que les proprietes des transitions de Verwey sont modifiees par un accroissement de temperature. Ceci suggere que les roches du socle n'ont pas ete chauffees globalement au-dessus de ~500°C depuis l'impact. Nous observons qu'une partie des roches ont enregistrees une aimantation thermoremanente et que d'autres ont ete foudroyees. Pourtant, il semble que les aimantations de certains echantillons ne peuvent pas etre expliquees par ces types d'acquisition de l'aimantation. Pour ces dernieres, nous proposons que leurs fortes aimantations aleatoirement distribuees aient comme source le champ magnetique genere par le plasma de l'impact.
