Abstract
„Engonjaneni bei Tinana. Unterricht im Freien. Im Hintergrund die Lehrerin. Eine Schülerin zeigt ihr Werk Br. Kienemann (nicht sichtbar)“ („Engonjaneni near Tinana. Outdoor education. In the background the woman teacher. A pupil is showing her work to brother Kienemann (not visible)”). Nine children next to a hut. Eight children are sitting, one is standing on the left side of the picture, wearing a skirt, a shirt and a pinafore, holding her hands in front of her. Some of the children are holding slates and other objects in their hands. They are wearing short dresses or draperies. Left to the children a woman standing, wearing a coat and a long shawl. Stones are put in the window of the hut.; Johann Kienemann (1896-?), born in Rothau, Alsace. Married Anita Kahlhoefer (born in 1903 in Rama-Kay, Nicaragua) in 1926 in Herrnhut. He was a missionary of the Moravian Brethren from 1927-37. From 1927-34 he worked in Tinana, from 1934 onwards in Clarkson. In 1937/38 returned to Germany.--Paul Albert Theile, born in 1908 in Niesky (Germany), was a theologian and preacher. He was no missionary in Africa, but went on an educational journey to East Africa in 1933 and to South Africa in 1934. He was a mission deputy in Montmirail (France) from 1934 till 1938. In 1948 he married Susette Schmidt. After 1962 he was director of the Moravian Church in Switzerland. He died in 1995 in Birsfelden (near Basel / Switzerland).; c.f. picture no.
