Paru en 2011, le livre Art et politique. La reprsentation en jeu s'insre dans un renouveau de l'analyse sur les liens entre art et politiqueet particulirement sur la question de l'art engag -, perceptible au Qubec et dans l'ensemble du monde occidental depuis quelques annes dj 1 . Malgr la diversit des positions thoriques soutenues, les analystes partagent un mme constat : il est ncessaire de rflchir aux contours de l'art proccupation sociale et politique, puisque celui-ci ne fonctionne plus selon les mmes principes qu'auparavant ou, serions-nous tente d'ajouter, il ne correspond plus la reprsentation sociale que nous en avons 2 , c'est--dire aux caractristiques ou aux schmas d'analyse avec lesquels nous en sommes venus posteriori identifier l'art engag. Ce renouveau de la recherche intervient aprs une ou deux dcennies, partir des annes 1980, d'analyses plus alarmistes, annonant, de faon un peu prophtique, la mort de l'engagement par l'art, notamment sous l'effet de la remise en cause des grands rcits mancipateurs, du recul dfensif des mouvements sociaux sous l'effet du nolibralisme et du rejet par les artistes eux-mmes d'une conception de l'art engag qui, devant se subordonner aux impratifs de la lutte politique et de ses chefs, a parfois sacrifi
