Coombes (1, AAFC); Windsor Lake, August 30, 1977, D. Larson (5, MUN). Cryptophagus difficilis is newly recorded in insular Newfoundland, Labrador and in Atlantic Canada (Figs. 3, 6). In Canada, previous records of the species are from British Columbia, Alberta, the Yukon, and Québec; in the United States it has been found from Idaho to New Jersey, and south to Georgia (Woodroffe and Coombs 1961). In British Columbia it has been collected from fungus (Woodroffe and Coombs 1961). It is a flightless species, and in most of the specimens examined from this region, the wings were vestigial (although one specimen had reduced wings equal to approximately half the length of the abdomen).
