<p>De plaatsing van ondergrondse restafvalcontainers (ORACs) in twee wijken van Den Haag, Belgisch Park en het Koningsplein en omgeving, is op extensieve wijze archeologisch begeleid. De samenwerking met de aannemer van dit project verliep soepel en hierdoor is, ondanks de beperkingen als gevolg van de aanlegmethode, toch nuttige informatie verzameld.<br>In Belgisch Park is opnieuw vastgesteld dat het onderscheid tussen de Laag van Voorburg (Oud Duin) en Laag van Den Haag (Jong Duin) zoals dat op dit moment wordt gemaakt deels op niet goed onderbouwde aannames is gebaseerd. Dit onderscheid is in de praktijk meestal niet te maken. Het verdient daarom aanbeveling om in de kuststrook van Den Haag, zolang er geen positief bewijs is voor dit onderscheid, al het daar aangetroffen duinzand tot het Laagpakket van Zandvoort te rekenen, het eerst volgende hogere niveau in de lithostratigrafische indeling. Dit is conform internationale richtlijnen hiervoor en sluit aan op de (officiële) geologische indeling van de Nederlandse ondergrond.<br>De geologie in de omgeving van het Koningsplein, zoals die op de geologische kaart staat afgebeeld, was goed herkenbaar in de boringen en waarnemingen. Op basis van historisch kaartmateriaal moet er rekening mee worden gehouden dat (sub)recent landgebruik de bodemopbouw in deze wijk tot aanzienlijke diepte onder huidig maaiveld heeft verstoord.</p>
