Decadal change of physico-chemical and microbial properties of the North Atlantic Deep Water and adjacent water masses

Diese Masterarbeit untersucht die Auswirkungen der Veränderungen in der Umwelt, wie die globale Erwärmung auf die Tiefsee. Basierend auf zwei Fahrten im Nordatlantik im Abstand von 21 Jahren wurden die Veränderungen der physikalisch-chemischen und biologischen Parameter der Tiefsee basierend auf dem Nordostatlantischen Tiefenwasser (NEADW) zwischen Island und den Azoren und der wichtigsten Wassermassen analysiert. Die Ergebnisse der Proben in diesem Gebiet wurden zusätzlich mit den Messungen der deep Argo-Floats verglichen, die ab 2014 in dem Gebiet eingesetzt wurden, aber nur Tiefe, Salzgehalt und Sauerstoff messen. Alle physikalischen und chemischen Parameter veränderten sich signifikant, was zu einer reduzierten mikrobiellen Abundanz zwischen 2002 und 2023 führte. Die Temperaturänderungen im NEADW waren statistisch nicht signifikant, aber bereits Iceland-Scotland-Overflow-Water (ISOW) und im Labrador-Seawater (LSW) war die Temperaturerhöhung über diese 21 Jahre signifikant. Die Verringerung des Salzgehalts des NEADW und der Sauerstoffversorgung waren über den gesamten Abschnitt des Transekts deutlich sichtbar. Die reduzierte Menge an Nährstoffen sowie der abnehmende Anteil an organischem Kohlenstoff (DOC) führt zu der Annahme einer Reduktion der Wirkungsweise der biologischen Pumpe.
