Abstract
La bibliometría es la ciencia que estudia con una metodología de raíz estadística las formas de producción, contenidos, difusión y efectos (principalmente en términos de impacto) de las publicaciones. El mayor interés de la bibliometría (o cienciometría, si la restringimos a las publicaciones académicas) reside en que permite estudiar grandes volúmenes bibliográficos de modo empírico, alcanzando así retratos sistemáticos de la evolución y estado de la cuestión de disciplinas científicas de un modo que un investigador individual no podría elaborar basándose únicamente en sus propias lecturas. Los principales objetos de estudio de la bibliometría son la evolución de un campo de estudio, las tendencias actuales, los ejes temáticos y metodológicos, la productividad, los parámetros de autoría —tanto individual como institucional o nacional— y el impacto en términos de citas y repercusión en Internet. Esta entrada presenta brevemente la bibliometría en su conjunto. Se detiene en especial en sus principales objetos de estudio, así como en sus potencialidades y limitaciones, para después centrarse en sus herramientas metodológicas —fundamentalmente cuantitativas y estadísticas— y concluir con un retrato de su aplicación a los estudios de traducción hasta 2019.
