Abstract
In september heeft Archeologenbureau Argo een belangrijke opgraving uitgevoerd op de vindplaats Krommenie 14, ofwel 't Hain, in opdracht van de gemeente Zaanstad. Deze site, ontdekt in de jaren zestig door de AWN Zaanstreek tijdens slootwerkzaamheden, bevatte een trapeziumvormige houten palissade uit de eerste eeuw na Christus met binnenin structuren zoals een mogelijke wachttoren. De opgraving onthulde diverse objecten, waaronder inheems en Romeins aardewerk, slingerkogels en munten, suggererend dat de locatie strategisch via waterwegen bereikbaar was. Na vijftig jaar speculatie hoopt men nu antwoorden te vinden op vragen over de functie van de site en of deze door inheemsen of Romeinen werd gebouwd. De opgraving trok publieke belangstelling tijdens een open dag, waarbij vondsten uit zowel recente als eerdere opgravingen werden getoond. Dit recente onderzoek kan bevestigen dat 't Hain deel uitmaakte van een Romeinse militaire inrichting, mogelijk gerelateerd aan het fort bij Velsen. De resultaten zullen gedocumenteerd worden in een rapport dat binnen twee jaar gepubliceerd wordt.
