Dans l’optique de favoriser une intégration et une participation sociales optimales, d’importantes modifications ont été apportées aux services offerts à la population présentant une déficience intellectuelle (DI) ou un trouble du spectre autistique (TSA) au Québec depuis quelques décennies. Cette reconfiguration des services nécessite la mise en place de nouvelles stratégies pour répondre au nouveau mandat des services régionaux. Il importe alors de bien définir les rôles des professionnels œuvrant dans ce cadre et de reconnaître le rôle de certains professionnels qui sont de plus en plus présents dans les services spécialisés. Toutefois, l’apport de l’ergothérapie dans les services de DI ou TSA est encore méconnu. L’analyse des documents recensés montre que l’ergothérapeute s’illustre grâce à des modèles novateurs de prestation de services, de même qu’aux interventions de prévention en amont des services usuels. Il répond aux besoins grandissants en rapport avec le développement optimal du potentiel des personnes et l’amélioration de la qualité de vie.
