Abstract
BRAC University was established in 2001 as a crucial extension of BRAC's work, providing relevant and high-quality education and equipping students with the acumen to address both local and global challenges.Within this short span of time the University has achieved remarkable success and realized many short and long term goals in terms of education, employment, personal growth, global participation and social impact.The BRAC University community subscribes to the fundamental conviction that education is a catalyst for positive change and the cornerstone for building strong, resilient and enduring communities.Today, under the leadership of our chairperson, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, the BRAC community is at the forefront of a campaign to create sustainable and lasting change in Bangladesh and throughout the rest of the developing world.In accord, three fundamental initiatives that will drive this change at BRAC University are rooted in my belief that collaborative endeavors will drive synergies, leading to new and innovative ideas that, ultimately, will have deep social impact.BRAC University is committed to incorporate all three facets -collaboration, innovation, and social impact -in its major endeavors to remain a front-running institution in Bangladesh, in the region and beyond.As Vice Chancellor, I am committed to attracting a body of faculty and students committed to academic excellence.In this endeavor and to advance our mission to contribute to national development in Bangladesh, we are striving to reach greater heights as a center of excellence in higher education that is able to develop creative leaders, generate knowledge that is responsive to society and contribute to societal value creation.We strive to provide high quality teaching and an excellent broad-based education, yet focusing on professional development for students, in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to lead various sectors of the country in its quest for development.The University is also taking steps to strengthen faculty development efforts to ensure a dynamic and futuristic environment for both teaching and research.BACKGROUND BRAC University (BRACU) was established in 2001.It follows liberal arts approach to education which nurtures fresh ideas and gives new impetus in the field of tertiary education.It ensures a high quality of education and aims to meet the demands of the contemporary times.Building on BRAC's experience of seeking solution to challenges posed by extreme poverty, BRACU hopes to instill in its students a commitment to working towards national development and progress.BRACU is accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and approved by the Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh. MISSIONThe mission of BRAC University is to foster the national development process through the creation of a centre of excellence in higher education that is responsive to society's needs and able to develop creative leaders and actively contributes to learning and creation of knowledge. GOALThe goal of the university is to provide an excellent broad-based education with a focus on professional development for students, in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary for leading the country in its quest for development.Along with this, the university provides an environment for faculty development to ensure a dynamic teaching environment.Faculties are provided with an environment in which they can further their teaching-learning skills and contribute to the creation of new knowledge by developing and using their research skills.
