"En este estudio se evaluaron dos protocolos anestésicos para ovariohisterectomía (OVH) en diez hembras caninas raza Labrador, distribuidas al azar en dos grupos de cinco animales cada uno, y se asignó, al azar, un protocolo diferente a cada grupo: Grupo 1: fentanilo + etomidato, Grupo 2: fentanilo + tiopental. En ambos grupos el mantenimiento se hizo con isofluorano. En cada caso se evaluaron sus efectos sobre el hemograma, la alanina-aminotransferasa (ALT), fosfatasa alcalina (FA), nitrógeno ureico en sangre (BUN) y creatinina, tomando muestras 24 horas antes, 2 y 24 horas después de la anestesia y cirugía de OVH. En cuanto a la línea roja, los valores disminuyeron significativamente en el Grupo 1 (p≤0,05). Por el contrario, en la línea blanca, la mayoría de sus variables no mostraron cambios importantes; sin embargo, los neutrófilos aumentaron significativamente 24 horas después de la anestesia y cirugía de OVH (p≤0,05). En cuanto al aumento de los valores de ALT atribuibles a los protocolos anestésicos, éstos no tuvieron efectos clínicamente significativos. Los cambios de los valores en la creatinina no fueron clínicamente relevantes. Las demás variables estuvieron dentro de los parámetros normales, sin cambios significativos entre los protocolos y tiempos de muestreo. En conclusión, en las condiciones de este estudio, las combinaciones anestésicas usadas no produjeron alteraciones fuera de los parámetros fisiológicos de las variables sanguíneas y de bioquímica analizadas; sin embargo, se recomienda tener especial cuidado con el uso de etomidato como inductor en paciente con disminución de glóbulos rojos."
