Abstract
The week-long workshop offered by the Winkler Institute for Dispute Resolution at Osgoode Hall Law School gives current post-secondary students the opportunity to work in interdisciplinary project teams to tackle a design challenge that addresses a real justice problem.\nApplications are now being accepted for this year’s workshop, which will run from August 29 to September 2, 2016. The early-bird cost is $599 for applications received on or before June 30, 2016 and $699 after that date. Deadline for applications is August 8, 2016. To access the application, click here.\nIn 2015, the Winkler Institute hosted the first ever Justice Design Project (JDP), which brought together 13 York University, University of Ontario Institute of Technology and University of Toronto students from various educational backgrounds including philosophy, law and society, women and gender studies, and neuroscience, to name a few.\nThroughout the week, the students learned about and employed design thinking methods, such as empathy mapping and deep dive journeys, to help define the problem of access to justice from a user-perspective and to build a courthouse that was more responsive to the needs of users. The teams’ ideas were brought to life with the help of visual artists.\nThe students’ designs are now captured in a graphic entitled “Justice Spaces of the 21st Century” that is on display at Osgoode.\nFor more information about this year’s JDP workshop, please visit the website.
