Les Mélanges Jean-Marc Morceau qui rassemblent 105 auteurs en deux volumes, honorent la carrière d'un historien qui a marqué l'histoire des campagnes et, plus largement, le secteur des sciences humaines et sociales depuis trente ans. Professeur d'histoire à l'Université de Caen Normandie, Jean-Marc Moriceau a dirigé le Pôle Rural de la MRSH depuis sa fondation, en 1993, jusqu'en 2022. Il a créé, avec toute une équipe, la revue Histoire et Sociétés Rurales qui a relancé l'importance de ce champ d'étude dans le monde francophone. A l'occasion de son départ à la retraite, le parcours collectif proposé ici couvre les quatre périodes historiques, de l'Antiquité à l'époque actuelle. Il intéresse aussi la géographie, l'archéologie, l'agronomie, le droit, la linguistique, l'ethnologie, l'anthropologie et la sociologie. Les contributeurs français, venus de tous bords, et étrangers (Espagne, Suisse, Belgique, Portugal, Roumanie, Canada, Mexique) ouvrent les portes de l'histoire rurale autour de cinq volets complémentaires : Un historien devant ses témoins ; Acteurs et observateurs du monde rural (tome 1) ; Campagnes en mouvement ; Paysages et fruits de la terre ; L'environnement animal : loup, chasse et élevage (tome 2).
