La prise en compte de l’expérience de visite dans son ensemble et l’approche des visiteurs en tant qu’individus variés ont mené au développement de la médiation sensible au cours des dernières années. Par son approche renouvelée des œuvres d’art qui met en avant la subjectivité des visiteurs par la prise en compte de leurs perceptions et de leurs émotions, la médiation sensible semble particulièrement adaptée aux publics ayant des besoins spécifiques. En cela, elle s’inscrit dans des volontés de diversification des publics, et semble être un des outils favorisant l’accessibilité universelle. Le musée national Jean-Jacques Henner a conçu et mis en œuvre une visite multisensorielle à destination des publics spécifiques. Cette visite, qui est la mission principale d’un stage de cinq mois au sein du service des publics, de la communication et de la programmation culturelle, constitue le terrain d’étude d’un mémoire dont le but est de comprendre comment la médiation sensible favorise l’accessibilité universelle. Les recherches théoriques, le travail de conception de la visite et sa mise en œuvre avec des publics de natures variées permettent de voir que la médiation sensible est en effet un outil particulièrement adapté aux efforts d’accessibilité universelle par la relation personnelle qu’elle crée avec les œuvres et la position active qu’elle donne aux visiteurs. Bien qu’elle ne se suffise pas à elle-même, le rôle du médiateur et de l’expérience globale avant, pendant et après la visite étant essentiels pour les publics en situation de handicaps ou issus du monde de la santé et du champ social, elle offre un cadre et une base facilement adaptables pour répondre aux besoins spécifiques de chacun.
