Abstract
La présente thèse, initialement réalisée dans le cadre d'une cotutelle internationale France-Québec entre l'Université polytechnique Hauts-de-France et l'Université de Montréal, propose une géohistoire environnementale comparée des espaces fluviaux en France et au Canada, à partir de l'étude de la vallée du Haut-Escaut et de l'île de Montréal dans la vallée laurentienne. En croisant les méthodes de l'histoire environnementale, de l'archéologie fluviale et de la géohistoire des paysages, associées à une démarche comparatiste, l'objectif de confronter les trajectoires d'aménagement de ces deux territoires de l'eau, à parti d'usages et d'objets techniques communs issus de transferts et d'adaptations locales : moulins, réseaux hydrauliques urbains et ruraux, canaux de navigation. Ces aménagements ont ensemble contribué à créer de nouveaux territoires de l'eau et à transformer durablement les paysages, avec une transition des anciens cours d'eau aux canaux industriels, selon des temporalités et spatialités spécifiques à chaque territoire.
