Abstract
Dans cette recherche, nous tentons d’identifier les façons les plus efficaces de traduire les pièces de théâtre francophones provenant du Québec à destination des États-Unis. Après une brève revue du milieu théâtral new-yorkais, nous utilisons un cadre sémiotique et multidisciplinaire pour bonifier les théories existantes sur la traduction qui s’appliquent au théâtre et à la performance. Puis, à partir d’observations sur les différentes approches utilisées dans le passé pour la traduction/adaptation de pièces québécoises destinées aux États-Unis et ailleurs, nous proposons une classification des différentes postures idéologiques impliquées historiquement dans ce processus. Par l’entremise d’entrevues directes avec plusieurs traducteurs(trices) importants(es) de pièces provenant du Québec, nous tentons ensuite de déduire les approches toujours utilisées pour la dissémination du théâtre québécois aujourd’hui.
