In het kader van het project "Ontwikkeling van Locale Fugaciteitsmodellen" is een eerste werkbezoek gebracht aan het Institute for Environmental Studies van de Universiteit van Toronto. Het doel van dit bezoek was te onderzoeken op welke wijze de samenwerking op het gebied van de ontwikkeling van modellen voor het schatten en beschrijven van het gedrag van milieugevaarlijke verbindingen in locale situaties gestalte gegeven zou kunnen worden. De besprekingen die op het IES werden gevoerd mondden uit in een voorstel om een gezamenlijk project uit te voeren waarbij een zogenaamd modulair milieumodel ontwikkeld zal worden. De eerste fase van dit onderzoek betreft het modelleren van het gedrag van stoffen in een gelaagde bodem, waarbij vooral aandacht besteedt zal worden aan de beschrijving van processen die in het grensvlak (natte en droge depositie, vervluchtiging) plaatsvinden.
