Abstract
APEC là một tổ chức hợp tác kinh tế của 21 nền kinh tế thành viên với dân số 2,5 tỷ người, chiếm 47 % tổng hàng hoá thương mại trên thế giới. APEC bao gồm các nền kinh tế mạnh và năng động nhất trên thế giới, nơi đô thị hoá đã phát triển và đang phát triển nhanh, nơi cuộc sống đô thị (urban life) trong 10 năm gần đây đã có những biến đổi lớn, du lịch và thương mại đang trở thành nhu cầu quan trọng trong văn hoá dân tộc, đời sống các dân tộc được hiện đại hoá theo xu hướng toàn cầu. APEC bao gồm hai khu vực kinh tế lớn của nhân loại hiện nay, Đó là nến kinh tế khu vực các nước Bắc Mỹ giàu có (Mỹ, Canada, Mchico) và nền kinh tế của các nước khu vực Châu Á (Nhật Trung Quốc, Hàn Quốc, lãnh thó Đài Loan) đang vươn lên mạnh mẽ. APEC ra đời do nhu cầu phát triển thịnh vượng của các nền kinh tế ở khu vực Châu A-Thái Bình Dương. Nhu cầu ấy đòi hỏi phải có diễn đàn trao đổi, đòi hỏi được tự do thương mại và có chính sách kinh tế mở cửa thông thoáng để tăng cường đầu tư, phát triển dich vụ đi theo hướng toàn cầu hoá nhằm nâng cao dời sống cho nhân dân các quốc gia thành viên. Năm 1998, Việr Nam gia nhập APEC và là thành viên chính thức của tổ chức này.
