Abstract
Les avantages du vélo comme moyen de transport ne sont plus à démontrer et la promotion de l’utilisation du vélo est l’une des priorités du Programme national de santé publique du Québec. Comme les aménagements cyclables constituent un moyen efficace de favoriser les déplacements à vélo, il convient de poursuivre leur mise en place. De nombreuses contraintes y font toutefois obstacle, notamment le coût et le manque d’espace. \n \nConséquemment, il peut être pertinent de chercher à réaffecter des infrastructures existantes au bénéfice des cyclistes. En raison de l’envergure du réseau autoroutier au Canada et aux États-Unis ainsi que de caractéristiques propres aux autoroutes, soit notamment : la rareté des points de conflits; des courbes horizontales et verticales à grand rayon; et de larges accotements revêtus, l’utilisation de ces accotements par les cyclistes présente un potentiel à explorer. \n \nL’objectif de ce mémoire est de formuler une méthode permettant d’évaluer la possibilité de permettre aux cyclistes de circuler sur l’accotement des autoroutes en milieu rural et périurbain et, le cas échéant, à déterminer les mesures de mitigation à adopter.
