Ce travail dirigé s’intéresse à la valeur patrimoniale des missions photographiques et plus particulièrement, à celle de la mission photographique Documenter la pandémie du Musée McCord initiée au début de la pandémie de COVID-19. Pendant la crise sanitaire de 2020, l’UNESCO a lancé un appel pour la sauvegarde du patrimoine documentaire sur la pandémie en cours. Notre objectif est donc d’offrir ici une analyse visant à vérifier la valeur patrimoniale du projet muséal de l’institution montréalaise en regard des attentes de la structure onusienne. Pour ce faire, nous avons réfléchi sur l’usage du médium photographique et du modèle de « mission » en réponse à la pandémie. Afin de répondre à notre question de recherche à savoir si la mission photographique du Musée McCord remplit les conditions patrimoniales, nous avons tout d’abord voulu étudier le cas de missions photographiques ayant joué un rôle important dans la patrimonialisation de la photographie. Nous avons tenu également à vérifier comment la photographie documentaire s’inscrit dans une conception du patrimoine documentaire. Les résultats obtenus nous ont menés à reconnaître une dimension patrimoniale au projet photographique du Musée McCord.
