Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Genetic variation In traits potentially affecting the waterrelations
\nof balsam poplar (PopuIus balsamifera L.) clones from
\nfour provenances along a transect from northern Wisconsin to
\nPickle Lake in northwestern Ontario was examined both in the
\nfield and In the greenhouse. Traits measured were transpiration
\nrates, stomatal conductance, internode length, average single-leaf
\nabaxial area and oven-dry weight, specific leaf weight, and
\nstomatal density and length. Additional traits measured In the
\ngreenhouse provenance trial were shoot length, number of leaves
\nper plant, total abaxial leaf area per plant, total oven-dry root,
\nshoot and leaf weight, and oven-dry root/shoot weight ratio. Most
\nof the observed variation in traits was attributable to clones
\nwithin provenances and to ramets within clones. As much as
\neighty-five percent of the observed variation was attributable to
\nvariation among and within clones within provenances. The
\nprovenance effect had a significant Influence on leaf size and
\nmorphology traits, with an apparent north-south clinical trend.
\nLeaves from northern sources were smaller In area, lighter In
\nweight, and were thicker than leaves from southern sources. As
\nexpected stomatal conductance was positively correlated with
\nmeasured transpiration rates. The only other trait significantly
\ncorrelated with transpiration rates was stomatal length, and this
\nonly occurred in the greenhouse provenance trial. Larger stomata
\nwere associated with higher rates of transpiration.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
