Le présent mémoire est issu de questionnements sur l’insécurité linguistique au Québec ainsi que sur l’avènement de la littérature jeunesse comme méthode pédagogique innovante et bénéfique aux apprentissages scolaires. Il a pour objectif de réfléchir sur le rôle de l’école dans la prise en compte de la variation en enseignement du français au primaire. Cette recherche est divisée en deux parties. La première cerne la problématique, en établissant un cadre conceptuel et en dressant le bilan des recherches existantes sur le sujet. S’ensuit la présentation d’une cueillette de données basée sur un corpus composé de manuels scolaires, ce corpus ayant pour but d’établir les cas de variation sur lesquels se basera un outil didactique. La seconde partie présente une proposition de solution concrète pour répondre à la problématique identifiée : un album qui emprunte les codes de la littérature jeunesse pour aborder la question de la variation linguistique et de l’identité dans les écoles primaires. Une place importante est accordée au processus de création d’un album de littérature pour les élèves du premier cycle ainsi qu’à la mise à l’épreuve de celui-ci en contexte d’expérimentation en dyade parent-enfant. Cette recherche souhaite mettre de l’avant une approche variationniste de la langue. De ce fait, elle s’inscrit dans les discussions sur l’apport que peut représenter la littérature jeunesse en enseignement du français langue maternelle pour lutter contre l’insécurité linguistique au Québec.
