Le Canada, longtemps considéré par des milliers d’immigrants comme le pays de l’ultime frontière, a développé depuis des dé‐ cennies une politique multiculturelle attachée aux singularités ethniques qui la composent. Et si, pour l’immigrant du Canada, la comparaison avec l’autre langue se fait selon des termes bi‐ naires, langue d’origine/anglais, à Montréal, le binôme linguis‐ tique se mue en trinôme. Montréal représente désormais la ville où s’articule la différence, où s’« écrit la différence », pour pa‐ raphraser un célèbre numéro de Vice Versa de 1985. Je centrerai mon essai sur l’analyse de la culture des immi‐ grés au Québec, longtemps censurée par les classes dominantes qui ont imposé, des décennies durant, l’uniformité des menta‐ lités et l’exclusion de groupes potentiellement dangereux. Il est évident que la communauté italienne fera nécessairement l’ob‐ jet de cette analyse car elle est non seulement le groupe numéri‐ quement le plus important après les communautés anglophone et francophone mais c’est aussi celle dont sont issus deux écri‐ vains tels que Micone et Caccia qui représentent désormais toute la communauté des écrivains migrants et transculturels au Qué‐ bec et pour lesquels écrire en français est devenu un manifeste politique.
