Le pharmacien exerce une profession séculaire qui a toujours incarné connaissances scientifiques et modernité. En tant que professionnel de santé, le pharmacien ne peut se soustraire aux nouvelles pratiques et il doit obligatoirement moderniser le service qu'il procure au patients. Au Québec, nos confrères ont choisi d'appliquer le concept des soins pharmaceutiques. Par cette démarche, le pharmacien dépiste les problèmes liés à la pharmacothérapie et communique les solutions vis-à-vis de ces problèmeset assure le suivi thérapeutique. Il s'impose comme un partenaire indispensable à la bonne prise en charge des patients dont l'utilité est reconnue par les prescripteurs, les mutuelles et les malades. En France, le pharmacien oriente essentiellement son action autour de la délivrance de l'ordonnance ; les critères de pratiques sont encore très traditionnels mais évoluent. Ainsi, pour redéfinir une nouvelle orientation de notre professuion, il serait intéressant d'observer le modèle des soins pharmaceutiques. Ils ont permis aux pharmacies québécoises de devenir un acteur essentiel au sein de son système de santé en améliorant les soins prodigués aux patients et en limitant les dépenses liées à la mauvaise utilisation des médicaments.
