Le Président polonais, Andrzej Duda, a rencontré le 10 mai 2017, le Secrétaire exécutif par intérim de la Commission économique pour l’Afrique, Abdalla Hamdok, pour discuter d’un certain nombre de questions, y compris la candidature de la Pologne à un siège non permanent au Conseil de sécurité des Nations Unies et la nécessité de renforcer les liens commerciaux entre la Pologne et l’Afrique. M. Duda, qui auparavant a rencontré son homologue éthiopien, Mulatu Teshome, dit à M. Hamdok que la Pologne souhaite investir en Afrique et ajoute qu’il serait davantage ravi de voir aussi les entreprises africaines investir dans son pays. M. Duda insiste sur le besoin de solidarité et prend la Pologne en exemple qui ne serait pas ce qu’elle est aujourd’hui si ce n’eût été le soutien reçu par les autres pays. Il rappelle combien les temps étaient durs dans son pays pendant le communisme et ajoute que depuis sa prise de fonction, les conditions de vie se sont considérablement améliorées pour les polonais, le salaire moyen est actuellement de 600 dollars américains. Plus tôt, M. Duda a visité la Commission de l’Union africaine, une usine exploitée par le fabricant de tracteurs polonais, Ursus, en Éthiopie et soutenu l’idée que davantage d’entreprises polonaises investissent en Afrique.
