Dans le cadre de la lutte contre les mauvais traitements envers les personnes aînées, les intervenants psychosociaux jouent un rôle majeur en matière de dépistage et d'intervention. La pratique pose de nombreux défis qui émanent de considérations psychosociales complexes dans un contexte où la personne âgée vit dans une situation à risque. Pour vérifier comment les enjeux éthiques et psychosociaux de l'intervention dans les situations de mauvais traitements se posent au Québec, des entrevues en profondeur (récits de pratique) furent faites auprès de 16 intervenants psychosociaux oeuvrant soit en CLSC, en Centre hospitalier, dans un organisme communautaire ou dans une entreprise d'économie sociale. Ces entrevues ont permis de recueillir les représentations sociales des intervenants psychosociaux à propos de leurs pratiques professionnelles. Le but de cette étude est d'identifier les enjeux et les dilemmes éthiques reliés au respect de l'autonomie des personnes aînées victimes de mauvais traitements, à partir de récits d'intervenants psychosociaux sur leur pratique professionnelle. L'approche par principes--autonomie, bienfaisance et non-malfaisance--(Beauchamp, & Childress, 1994) a servi à dégager les valeurs enjeu et les enjeux éthiques qui en découlent."--Résumé abrégé par UMI.
