Dans la grande famille des circuits alimentaires de proximité, le marché virtuel apparait comme un modèle innovant, puisqu’en plus d’utiliser la technologie pour mettre en lien les entrepreneurs du domaine agroalimentaire et les consommateurs, il favorise le partage d’outils et de ressources entre les entrepreneurs qui en sont membres. Si le modèle a pris une ampleur relative en milieux urbains et périurbains ces dernières années, il est encore peu présent en milieu rural, alors même que ce sont les entrepreneurs de ces milieux qui gagneraient à bénéficier de plus de structures permettant la vente en circuits de proximité. Afin de documenter les effets de l’adhésion à un marché virtuel sur les entrepreneurs agroalimentaires en milieu rural au Québec, une étude de cas a été réalisée par le biais d’entrevues semi-dirigées auprès de onze entrepreneurs membres de marchés virtuels situés dans deux territoires ruraux du Québec. L’analyse du discours des entrepreneurs rencontrés montre que si le fait de vendre via le marché virtuel présente des bénéfices pour eux, ceux-ci sont plutôt de l’ordre de l’aspect social que de l’aspect économique. Elle démontre également que de nombreux défis sont encore à relever quant à l’adhésion des consommateurs et à la pérennité des structures.
