Abstract
Diplomityö käsittelee arkkitehti Woldemar Baeckmanin suunnittelemia rakennuksia Suomen Sokeri oy:lle 1940-luvulta 1960-luvulle saakka. Arkkitehdillä oli pitkä työsuhde asiakkaan kanssa, jonka tuloksena syntyi typologisesti moninainen ja tyylillisesti kerrostunut rakennuskanta. Aihetta on tutkittu ensisijaisesti arkistomateriaalin ja kirjallisuuden kautta. Baeckmanin ja sokeriyhtiön työsuhde muodosti huomattavan osan Baeckmanin laajasta työluettelosta tarjoten kiintoisan ja ennen kokonaisvaltaisesti dokumentoimattoman näkökulman arkkitehdin työuraan sekä suomalaisen teollisuusarkkitehtuurin historiaan. \n \nTyössä käsitellään Baeckmanin ja Suomen Sokerin yhteistyönä syntyneiden rakennusten lisäksi itse arkkitehdin elämäntyötä sekä Suomen Sokerin yrityshistoriaa. Rakennuskantaa on jäsennetty kolmen eri typologian mukaan: tehdasrakennukset, toimistorakennukset sekä asuinrakennukset. Työn lähtökohtana ja pääasiallisena lähteenä on toiminut Arkkitehtuurimuseolle lahjoitettu Woldemar Baeckmanin piirustuskokoelma. Lähdemateriaalia on hankittu myös Helsingin rakennusvalvonnan arkistosta sekä eri museoiden valokuva-arkistoista. \n \nTyön tuloksena on jäsennetty katsaus Woldemar Baeckmanin teollisuusarkkitehtuuriin Suomen Sokerin viitekehyksessä. Rakennuksissa heijastuu arkkitehdin tyylilliset vaihtelut sekä rakennustekniikan muutokset. Rakennuskantaa on käsitelty myös suhteessa Baeckmanin muuhun tuotantoon sekä vähemmissä määrin suomalaisen teollisuusarkkitehtuurin kokonaiskuvaan.
