本研究は長野県松本市にある上高地において,チョウ類群集の季節変動や種構成を明らかにするとともに,チョウ類群集を用いて環境評価を行った。調査は2009年5月26日,6月23日,7月24日,7月30日,8月20日,10月16日の計6回のチョウ類のトランセクト調査を行い,また2009年7月24日と7月30日には定点観測を実施した。その結果,トランセクト調査では7科41種554個体が,また,定点観測では6科24種152個体が確認された。上高地の種構成は高原性種の割合が53.7%で最も高く,またクモマツマキチョウ北アルプス・戸隠亜種Anthocharis cardamines isshikii,オオイチモンジLimenitis populi jezoensis,コヒオドシAglaisurticae esakii の3種の高山チョウが確認された。上位優占3種は,ヤマキマダラヒカゲNeope niphonicaniphonica,コムラサキApatura metis substituta,スジグロシロチョウPieris melete meleteであった。Simpson の多様度指数の値は,平均8.22で6月23日以外は安定した値を示した。EI 指数は100となり,「良好な林や草原」と判定され,環境階級存在比(ER)による環境評価では,天然更新林といった環境の1次段階と判定された。また,過去の上高地や近隣の島々谷のチョウ類群集との比較から,現在の上高地のチョウ類群集はタテハチョウ科や高原性種が増加傾向にあり,それらの種の生息に特に適した環境になりつつあることが示唆された。
