Doctorant en sociologie à l'UQAM Chercheur associé à la Chaire MC D Ce texte constitue les notes de la Conférence publique prononcée par l'auteur à l'UQAM, le 23 septembre 2004 Individuellement, les fonds institutionnels étrangers présents en France ne prennent que des parts très minoritaires dans les entreprises ; mais, par leurs exigences communes en matière de gouvernement d'entreprise, ils contribuent au renforcement du " pouvoir financier " sur le contrôle des entreprises.Celles-ci sont amenées à modifier le fonctionnement de leur conseil d'administration et leur communication financière en termes de données comptables, de rythme de publication des comptes et d'annonce d'objectifs ou de prévisions de résultats.Du fait de leur gestion diversifiée et de la volonté de préserver la liquidité de leur portefeuille, les fonds institutionnels étrangers présents en France ne prennent individuellement que des parts très faibles dans les entreprises: moins de 2 % du capital des entreprises du CAC 40, et le plus souvent moins de 0,5 %.Parmi les quinze fonds les plus actifs en France, on trouve dix fonds américains, dont les cinq principaux gèrent à eux seuls plus de 15 milliards d'euros (Fidelity, Franklin Templeton, Capital Research, TIAA-CREF, T-Rowe Price).Pris ensemble, ces fonds institutionnels étrangers pèsent d'un poids important dans les entreprises du CAC 40.Ces fonds et les autres actionnaires étrangers représentent 35 % de la capitalisation boursière de la place de Paris et 50 % de celle du CAC 40. 1
