Cette étude s'intéresse à la communauté italienne de Montréal à la fin des années 1930, lors de la période fasciste. À travers le journal L'Italia Nuova publié à Montréal pendant ces années, j'ai cherché à mettre en lumière les informations transmises aux Italiens de la communauté afin de commencer à démystifier cette période. Nous voyons que le journal, pendant les années étudiées, comporte deux dimensions fondamentales:"communautaire" et"propagande". Le rédacteur en chef et journaliste principal, Giulio Romano, n'a eu d'autre choix que de maintenir un équilibre entre ces deux dimensions afin de pouvoir véhiculer les valeurs fascistes dans la communauté. En présentant les pôles institutionnels autour desquels s'organisent la communauté et les associations actives dans celle-ci, je démontre que les Italo-Montréalais baignaient effectivement dans un atmosphère fasciste, mais semblaient plutôt adhérer à ces associations et participer à leurs activités afin de combler leurs besoins identitaires et de créer un sentiment d'appartenance qui leur manquait depuis leur arrivée. Les articles étudiés m'ont aussi permis d'avancer que les efforts du Consulat italien de Montréal et des organisateurs des associations fascisées semblent avoir réussi à contrôler la vie sociale et idéologique de la communauté sans pour autant donner une dimension politique à leurs efforts.
