Abstract
Setiap masyarakat memerlukan bahasa untuk berkomunikasi. Bahasa juga menjadi identiti \nsesebuah bangsa sebagai ciri utama pembinaan negara-bangsa. Dengan bahasa, masyarakat \nboleh menjalankan aktiviti seharian. Kertas kerja ini pertamanya bertujuan untuk \nmembincangkan sejauh mana bahasa Bawean digunakan oleh orang Bawean dalam \nkehidupan seharian. Kedua, untuk membincangkan penggunaan bahasa Bawean dalam \nkalangan orang Bawean antara generasi. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah kualitatif. Seramai \ntujuh orang dari 11 orang informan dipilih. Kajian dijalankan di penempatan orang Bawean \ndi Kampung Sungai Tiram dalam daerah Johor Bahru. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa \npenggunaan Bahasa Bawean digunakan untuk urusan seharian sesama orang Bawean sewaktu \nberkomunikasi. Jika berbeza sub etnik. Bahasa Melayu menjadi bahasa dominan untuk \nberkomunikasi dengan etnik yang berbeza. Dari segi antara generasi pula, tiada perbezaan \nketara penggunaan Bahasa Bawean. Secara kesimpulannya, dari segi penghayatan nasional, \netnik Bawean juga cenderung ke arah positif dalam pembinaan bangsa Malaysia dari segi \nbahasa.
