Le gonflement des remblais sous dalle de béton résidentielle est un phénomène d'actualité dans le domaine scientifique. Des sulfures de fer, comme la pyrite, contenus dans certaines roches s'oxydent pour produire de l'acide sulfurique. Les conditions favorisant l'oxydation de la pyrite et l'expansion par le gonflement sont l'abondance, la texture et la distribution de la pyrite, la granulométrie, la compacité et les propriétés physico-mécaniques et l'épaisseur du remblai, la nature, l'abondance et la distribution des calcaires et des minéraux argileux. Pour mieux comprendre ce phénomène, une étude comportant trois volets a été effectuée. Le premier volet consistait en un inventaire réalisé sur la Rive-Sud de Montréal dans les municipalités de Longueuil, Boucherville et Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville. Un total de 224 bâtiments résidentiels a été inspecté. L'inventaire comprend 224 relevés visuels au sous-sol et 197 relevés visuels au garage. Les maisons visitées avaient entre 6 et 57 ans. Le deuxième volet consistait en un projet d'instrumentation. Le troisième volet consistait à tenter de mesurer le potentiel de gonflement résiduel de trois des cinq remblais instrumentés selon le protocole en chambre humide sur le granulat mes de l'avant par les chercheurs de l'Université de Sherbrooke."--Résumé abrégé par UMI
