El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el uso recreativo de la Playa El Arenal, localizada al sur este del cantón General Villamil Playas - Provincia del Guayas, a 103 km de la ciudad de Guayaquil, la misma que cuenta con un alto número de visitantes; una playa recta y abierta que se convierte en una buena opción al momento de elegir un destino de sol y playa en donde se puede realizar diferentes actividades recreativas. Este estudio se logro a través de la evaluación de la situación actual del destino, el análisis de la demanda, y el potencial turístico mediante la realización de encuestas y entrevistas con lo que se determinó el perfil del turista y nivel de satisfacción de los mismos. Después, mediante la capacidad de carga se estimó el número de turistas que puede acoger la playa como destino de sol y playa. Del mismo modo se empleó la matriz de Leopold modificada para el estudio de los impactos ambientales y sociales que se generan en el lugar. Con estos resultados se pudo determinar cuál es el manejo y uso actual de la playa, además de comprobar la hipótesis “La gran afluencia de visitantes a General Villamil Playas causaría que algunos turistas estén interesados en visitar otras playas cercanas con menor carga de visitantes como El Arenal”. Finalmente se muestran las conclusiones y recomendaciones que podrían ser aplicadas para la optimización en el desarrollo de la Playa El Arenal.
