A learning resource for novice labor and delivery nurses in obstetrical operating rooms
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Background: Registered nurses working in the Case Room at the Janeway Children’s hospital \nhave a unique scope of practice that includes both labor and delivery nursing and Operating \nRoom nursing. The orientation program for the Case Room includes extensive theoretical and \npractical teaching relating to vaginal childbirth but the resources to support novice nurses’ \nknowledge development of surgical deliveries, known as Cesarean sections, is limited. As \napproximately one third of childbirth in Canada is via Cesarean section, a learning resource for \nthe Janeway Case Room’s Operating Room that is specific to Cesarean sections can help \nenhance the knowledge and skills of novice labor and delivery nurses, and ultimately, promote \nenhanced maternal and fetal outcomes. \nPurpose: To develop a resource manual for novice labor and delivery nurses to support \nknowledge uptake and skill development in the Case Room Operating Rooms for nursing care of \npatients undergoing Cesarean section. \nMethods: I completed a literature review, consultations with local key stakeholders, and an \nenvironmental scan. These methods were integral to determine if there was a need for a learning \nresource specific to Cesarean sections, identify content for the resource, as well as potential \neffective modes of delivery. \nResults: The results of the literature review, consultations, and environmental scan assisted with \ncontent development of the learning resource, as well as the most appropriate mode of delivery. \nThe evidence supported a need for a learning resource that was both specific to Cesarean \nsections and to the Janeway Case Room setting. Content of the educational resource includes \nroles and responsibilities of the Operating Room nurse, regulations for the Operating Room, \ninstruments specific to Cesarean sections, a review of appropriate anesthesia for Cesarean \nsections, a timeline for typical Cesarean sections as well as emergency preparedness. The chosen \nmode of delivery is a hard copy of a resource manual that can also be available online in the \nfuture. \nConclusion: A learning resource for the Janeway Case Room Operating Room specific to \nCesarean sections is expected to enhance the understanding of nursing care for novice labor and \ndelivery nurses by supporting their theoretical knowledge uptake, skill development, and \nconfidence. It is further anticipated that implementation of the learning resource will positively \ncontribute to enhanced maternal and fetal outcomes before, during, and after Cesarean sections.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
