Cet article analyse les réalités auxquelles font face les enfants d’origine immigrante dans le système scolaire canadien. La diversité culturelle devient de plus en plus une des caractéristiques fondamentales des écoles canadiennes. Bien qu’il y ait ce changement de représentation des écoles au Canada, les programmes continuent d’être conçus pour une population mono-ethnique. À ce paradoxe, s’ajoutent la sous représentation des enseignants des minorités ethnoculturelles, les préjugés que le personnel enseignant de la majorité nostalgique véhicule à l’égard des enfants d’origine immigrante et le manque de préparation des futurs enseignants à répondre aux besoins d’apprentissage que la diversité ethnoculturelle impose dans les milieux urbains. Au lieu d’être perçue comme une richesse, cette diversité devient un problème supplémentaire à gérer. Dans cette optique, les enfants d’origine immigrante sont plus vulnérables à l’abandon et à l’échec scolaires.
