Dans l’objectif d’explorer et de décrire les expériences d’utilisation du français non-binaire chez celleux y ayant recours pour se désigner, 15 entretiens semi-dirigés ont été menés à l’automne 2023. L’analyse thématique (Braun et Clarke, 2006) aura permis de mettre trois grands thèmes en lumière : 1) le processus individuel d’utilisation du français non-binaire pour se désigner; 2) les expériences d’(in)utilisation du français non-binaire par les autres; et 3) les recommandations pour le futur du français non-binaire. À l’aide du concept de cisnormativité, de la théorie de l’éthique de la reconnaissance et du modèle du stress minoritaire, l’analyse des résultats a fait émerger que le français non-binaire, négocié dans un contexte où la cisnormativité est omniprésente, pouvait compliquer le dévoilement et l’utilisation des pronoms et accords non-binaires. Lorsque l’utilisation du français non-binaire n’est pas respectée par les autres, cela peut avoir une influence négative sur la représentation de soi et le bien-être des personnes participantes. Toutefois, pour certain·e·s, cette inutilisation des autres semble être, au contraire, source de motivation. La reconnaissance obtenue dans les relations de proximité agit d’ailleurs comme un ancrage pour l’utilisation du français non-binaire pour se désigner. Comme l’échantillon de l’étude était majoritairement composé de personnes blanches (n=13), et vivant à Montréal (n=10), il serait pertinent de s’attarder aux expériences d’utilisation du français non-binaire des personnes racisées qui l’utilisent pour se désigner, ainsi que celles des personnes vivant en région. _____________________________________________________________________________ MOTS-CLÉS DE L’AUTEUR : langage non-binaire, français non-binaire, non-binarité, reconnaissance, stress minoritaire, cisnormativité, soutien social
