La détresse psychologique paraît se proliférer de plus en plus dans le milieu de travail. Plusieurs recherches ont démontré que l'organisation du travail est une première source de problèmes de santé mentale. Ce qui a engendré sa remise en question. Karasek (1979) et Bourbonnais (1998) ont démontré, à travers leurs études, l'existence d'un lien important entre la demande psychologique au travail et le niveau de détresse psychologique. Le temps accordé au travail peut, lui aussi, être à la base de la détresse psychologique chez l'individu, surtout quand ce dernier se retrouve dans une situation de conflit travail-famille (Major, V.S. & al., 2002). Frone & al. (1992), quant à eux, ont démontré la relation entre le conflit travail-famille et le niveau de détresse psychologique. Toutefois, peu de recherches mettent en relation le type d'horaires de travail et la détresse psychologique. Nous visons, par la présente recherche, à cerner cette relation chez le personnel soignant où la population est majoritairement féminine (91% sont des femmes). Nous tentons aussi de vérifier si certains co-facteurs modifient l'association entre le type d'horaires de travail et la détresse psychologique Cette étude s'inscrit dans le cadre d'une vaste recherche longitudinale menée par Renée Bourbonnais auprès du personnel soignant travaillant dans différents CHSLD de la région de Québec.
