OBJECTIF : Les objectifs de cette étude transversale sont de (1) décrire les anomalies bucco- dentaires, la santé gingivale et le risque carieux des patients atteints du Syndrome de Beckwith-Wiedemann (SBW), (2) évaluer l’occlusion dentaire et squelettique de ces patients et (3) évaluer s’il y a une association entre le SBW et les anomalies dentaires, le risque carieux et les malocclusions. MÉTHODE : Seize patients âgés entre 2 et 14 ans et ayant un diagnostic du SBW ont été examinés et ont été comparés à un groupe témoin apparié pour l’âge et le sexe. La collecte de données s’intéressait à l’hygiène, la santé gingivale, le taux de caries, les anomalies dentaires et orales, le pH salivaire et les habitudes alimentaires. De plus un examen orthodontique a été effectué.RÉSULTATS : La macroglossie est la caractéristique la plus fréquente du SBW et est présente chez 88% des patients. Ces patients ont aussi plus d’ankyloglossie (p=0,018) et d’asymétrie au niveau facial (p=0,018) ou de la langue (p=0,018). La majorité (63%) des patients avec le SBW ont une béance antérieure et montrent généralement une déglutition infantile. Ils ont aussi un profil plus droit (p=0,006) et un surplomb horizontal diminué (p=0,007). Ils ont un taux de carie, une hygiène dentaire et une santé gingivale semblable au groupe contrôle et n’ont pas plus d’anomalies dentaires. CONCLUSIONS : Cette étude montre que ces patients ont une bonne hygiène, une bonne santé gingivale et un taux de carie normal malgré la macroglossie. Toutefois, ils ont plus de malocclusion.
