Abstract

Purpose: In 2007, NRC-CISTI launched two new online electronic discovery services, Discover and eBook Loans. This is just the beginning of changes at NRC-CISTI. The paper describes the new services, NRC-CISTI’s plans for transforming document delivery and the importance of these emerging business models for libraries. Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper is conceptual in nature, describing the Discover and eBook Loan services, discussing NRC-CISTI’s plans for transformation from print to electronic document delivery and the impact of the growing dominance of electronic literature, on library resource sharing models. Findings: The new breed of Web-based user oriented services have aroused different reactions in the library community, some very positive, some neutral, some negative. As NRC-CISTI embarks on more changes to its services it will work within the library community to make these services relevant to their needs. Originality/Value: Newly emerging information delivery services related to the digital landscape underlines the richness of new ideas in the library community to improve access to scholarly literature for users.
