No âmbito da Prática de Ensino Supervisionada em Educação Pré-Escolar, pretendeu-se perceber o modo como os contos populares de outras culturas se podem inserir na educação ambiental e explorar formas de abordá-los que sejam promotoras do interesse e do questionamento das crianças na primeira fase de um trabalho pela metodologia de projeto. Investigaram-se estas questões através de uma revisão de literatura científica e da elaboração, concretização e análise de um plano de ação pedagógica, sob a lente de investigação qualitativa e interpretativa, recorrendo-se à observação participante e à redação de notas de campo como instrumentos de recolha e análise de dados. Este plano destinou-se a apresentar, em duas etapas complementares, a tundra do norte do Alasca e o povo Inuit, e a floresta tropical da Amazónia e o povo Ticuna, tendo como ponto de partida a narração de contos provenientes do repertório oral desses dois povos. Verificou-se uma correspondência entre a literatura consultada, os objetivos traçados e a adesão das crianças relativamente ao plano de ação, tendo-se concluído que os contos populares de outras culturas se inserem na educação ambiental porque promovem uma aproximação afetiva entre as crianças e realidades que se encontram distantes, levam-nas a contactar com perspetivas de vida distintas das suas, veiculam uma perspetiva biocêntrica do mundo e modos sustentáveis de relação com o ambiente e predispõem-nas a maravilhar-se e a sentir curiosidade por aspetos biofísicos do planeta. Concluiu-se também que o envolvimento das crianças em assuntos relativos à educação ambiental, durante o lançamento de um projeto, pode ser promovido através do recurso a dois planos complementares – um maravilhoso e simbólico, veiculado através dos contos populares, e um concreto e objetivo, veiculado através do recurso às novas tecnologias para visionamento de fotografias, sons e pesquisa de informação.
