Oculopatie di presunta origine ereditaria nei cani di razza Retriever: osservazioni cliniche nel periodo 2015-2019

Abstract
Riassunto Obbiettivo: lo scopo dello studio è stato quello di identificare la prevalenza delle oculopatie di provata o presunta origine ereditaria (KP-HED – Known and Presumed Hereditary Eye Disease) congenite e non congenite, nei cani di razza Labrador Retriever e Golden Retriever, riscontrate durante la visita di controllo per la certificazione ufficiale FSA (Fondazione Salute Animale). Materiali e metodi: nello studio sono stati inclusi 165 cani di razza Labrador Retriever e Golden Retriever, presentati in visita dal 2015 al 2019. La visita è stata condotta secondo il protocollo previsto dalla certificazione ufficiale FSA. Risultati: sul totale delle KP-HED riscontrate nel 65% delle femmine e nel 35% dei cani maschi di razza Retriever, si riportano la displasia retinica (RD – Retinal Dysplasia) nel 70% dei casi e la cataratta ereditaria (HC – Hereditary Cataract) nel 24%. Nel Labrador Retriever la RD è stata diagnosticata in 20 soggetti (n=20; 66.7%) seguita dalla HC (n=8; 26.7%) e dalla distrofia corneale (CD – Corneal Distrophy) (n=1; 3.3%) ed Entropion (n=1; 3.3%). Nel Golden Retriever sono state riscontrate 6 RD e 1 HC. Conclusioni: l’assenza di follow-up per i soggetti esaminati non permette di stimare possibili variazioni di prevalenza delle oculopatie ereditarie non congenite. Ai fini del benessere animale, quale scopo primario, la prevenzione, basata su controlli ufficiali regolari contribuisce a ridurre la prevalenza di numerose patologie oculari, ormai diffuse a causa di selezioni genetiche spinte. Abstract Purpose: the purpose of the study was to identify the prevalence of congenital and non-congenital, proven or presumed, hereditary ocular diseases (KP-HEDs) in Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, found during the ophthalmological exam for the official certification issued by Animal Health Foundation (FSA). Material and methods: 165 Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever dogs examined from 2015 to 2019 were included. The examination was conducted according to the protocol established by the official FSA certification (Animal Health Foundation). Results: on the total KP-HEDs found in 65% of females and 35% of male Retriever dogs, retinal dysplasia (RD) was observed in 70% of cases and hereditary cataract (HC - Hereditary Cataract) in 24%. In the Labrador Retriever, RD was diagnosed in 20 subjects (n=20; 66.7%) followed by HC (n=8; 26.7%) and corneal distrophy (CD) (n=1; 3.3%) and entropion (n=1; 3.3%). In the Golden Retriever 6 RD and 1 HC were diagnosed. Conclusion: the absence of follow-up for the examined dogs does not allow us to estimate possible prevalence variations of non-congenital hereditary oculopathies. For the animal welfare, as a primary purpose, prevention based on regular official controls, helps to reduce the prevalence of several eye diseases, now widespread due to inbreeding strategies.
