Debe ser que falta mucha gente. “Eso es seguro” replicó el otro. “Falta casi la mitad desde ayer”, pero no es exactamente ausentismo, parece que hay una epidemia de influenza en los alrededores. He consultado con el Dr. y dice que están completamente enfermos”. “Bien, nada podemos hacer contra esto” opinó el capataz. “Esperemos a que se aclare lo más pronto posible”. Aquellos no son mineros. Creen que la minería es una ocupación peculiarmente malsana. El cuadro popular de un trabajador subterráneo lo muestra agachado en un socavón estrecho, fatigándose a la luz de una lámpara inadecuada casi invisible en la humedad, rodeado de una atmósfera de polvo y cayéndole una gotera en el oído izquierdo.
