Seychelles tuna fishery bulletin: fourth quarter 1985
Bibliographic record
Abstract
The number of purse seiners active in the Western Indian Ocean during the fourth quarter of 1985 increased from 36 in October to 38 in December, about ten vessels less than in the fourth quarter of 1984. Fishing success during the fourth quarter of 1985 was similar to the third quarter, and slightly better than the fourth quarter last year. \nSince commercial purse seiner operations began in 1982, catch rates have been high during the first quarter, then have declined progressively during the second and third quarters due to weather conditions of the Inter-Monsoon and the Southeast Monsoon periods. This year, however, catch rates during the first quarter were low, due largely to bad weather, then remained at roughly the same level for the second quarter, then increased during the third quarter. Excellent catches of skipjack were taken north of the equator from September to November. The catch rate for yellowfin increased in December; in contrast to 1984, when the seasonal increase in the catch of yellowfin occurred in November. \nThe cumulative catch by purse seinersfor 1985, based on data received by December 31st, is now 117,600 tonnes. The total catch for 1985 will probably be about 120-125,000 tonnes.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.

machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
