Abstract
L’automne et l’hiver derniers, j’ai mené une enquête intitulée « A Survey for Canadian Women Graduate Students in History » (Enquête à l’intention des Canadiennes aux études supérieures en histoire, en anglais seulement). Il y avait aussi une version destinée aux hommes diplômés. Cette enquête s’est quelque peu inspirée du Report on the Status of Women Graduate Students in History in Canada de 1991 (Rapport sur le statut de la femme aux études supérieures en histoire au Canada)(Bulletin de la SHC, vol. 17, n° 1). Dans ce rapport, j’ai compris que les femmes en particulier risquent de lutter pour établir un équilibre entre leur carrière et leur famille. Les femmes estiment être victimes de discrimination pour avoir choisi d’avoir des enfants ou attendent pour avoir des enfants parce qu’elles ont peur des conséquences sur leur carrière. Certaines de mes amies et de mes collègues me faisant part d’inquiétudes similaires, j’ai voulu savoir si l’enjeu est toujours important pour les étudiants canadiens de deuxième et de troisième cycles en histoire.
