Este trabajo parte de la siguiente interrogante: ¿Mariano H. Cornejo sigue los preceptos de la retórica clásica en su discurso La filosofía de la Patria Nueva? La investigación permite cubrir parcialmente el vacío en el conocimiento de la oratoria de Cornejo al estudiar tres operaciones retóricas (inventio, dispositio y elocutio) en uno de sus discursos más representativos. Asimismo, revaloriza la retórica clásica como marco de referencia para estudiar discursos oratorios. El objetivo general es analizar el discurso La filosofía de la Patria Nueva desde la perspectiva de la retórica clásica. Se emplea el método deductivo, es decir, primero se estudia los postulados de la retórica clásica para después aplicarlos al discurso de Cornejo. Los resultados del análisis retórico muestran que, en la inventio, Cornejo prioriza los elementos vinculados con los aspectos emocionales: el ethos y el pathos. En la dispositio, organiza su discurso conforme a la estructura canónica: exordium, narratio, argumentatio y peroratio. En la elocutio, considera las tres virtudes de la elocución: puritas, perspicuitas y ornatus, pero muestra predilección por esta última. La conclusión principal es que Cornejo demuestra conocimiento de la retórica clásica y se guía por sus preceptos para construir su discurso.
